Myrtle Beach to host FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing

Myrtle Beach to host FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing April 21, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announced today that it will host the seventh annual FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing, May 18-21, 2008. The FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing is the world’s largest firefighter golf benefit and has raised more than $60,000 for the families of fallen firefighters. More than 600 firefighters from 27 states and Canada are expected to participate on 30 Grand Strand area courses during the week.

The 2008 tournament will be dedicated to the late Captain Louis Mulkey and the Charleston, S.C. firefighters who lost their lives in a furniture store fire in West Ashley, S.C., last June. Mulkey had assisted with the Golf Outing each year by bringing members of his Charleston Fire Department to cook for all of the firefighters and their families at the picnic and awards ceremony. The FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Outing will honor Mulkey and the fallen Charleston firefighters in a special presentation at the April 21 picnic and awards ceremony.

A Golf Vacation to The Sea Trail Golf Resort
The Sea Trail Golf Resort In Myrtle BeachYou can travel the length and breadth of the Grand Strand to enjoy the work of Rees Jones, Willard Byrd and Dan Maples. But the only place you can appreciate these three great architects together is by walking outside your front door at the Sea Trails Resort and Conference Center, just north of Myrtle Beach in tranquil Sunset Beach, NC. And Sea Trail is the only place in the region where this trio signed their work, their three "Courses of Distinction" named for the men who left their design legacy in the only all-amenity resort in the Myrtle Beach area. Yet while brought together geographically, you'll be astounded at the different experiences that await you at all three layouts. Many truly believe you can capture the essence of Grand Strand golf while never leaving the Sea Trail resort.

Challenging? The Rees Jones Course played host to a local qualifier for the 2006 U.S. Open and Sea Trail also hosted the 2006 Carolinas Senior PGA Championship.

Where to Play a TPC Course on Your Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation

The TPC Myrtle Beach, SC Located at the southern end of The Grand Strand in Murrells Inlet, S.C., you’ll find one of the top-10 courses you can play on a Myrtle Beach golf vacation.

The TPC of Myrtle Beach might not technically be “where the Tour plays” anymore (it hasn’t hosted a Tour event since the then-named Senior PGA Tour Championship in 2000), but the Tom Fazio design hasn’t lost its luster and any golfer worth his wedge would be happy to play it. And, unlike most of the TPC courses that do host the pros, this one is open to the public.

Playing Through...in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach Golf CourseThe Pavilion may be gone, but the jewel of the Strand is still Grand, especially if you play golf. Myrtle Beach has been referred to as Golftown USA, Golf City USA and the Golfing Capital of the World. And for good reason, with 103 golf courses to play, this area along Highway 17 is a slice (no pun intended) of heaven for golfers.

Mickey McCamish, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, points out while there are fewer golf courses in the area than previous years, due to the adjustments in the industry, the number of public courses still surpasses other popular golfing destinations.

Golfers have many places to choose from for a true golf vacation, he said. However, I believe that Myrtle Beach offers quality, as well as variety, that cannot be matched anywhere in the world. We have courses designed by all of the top pros in the industry. There is truly a course for everyone.
