Afterburners

Afterburners is the Grand Strand’s newest and fastest amusement attraction. The 50,000-sq.-ft. indoor air-conditioned electric go-cart race track features the world’s quickest accelerating rental go-carts. The 250-foot, 16-degree banked oval track and the 850-foot road course with banked turns, long straight-aways and diminishing radius urns challenge every driver’s skill.

Each cart’s unique computer control system compensates for drivers of different weights, delivering equal power to all carts at the start of each race, ensuring side-by-side competitive racing. As each driver learns the track and shows the computer their driving skills, they are automatically raised to the next power level. The most skilled driver can attain up to 33-35 MPH. Each driver is outfitted with a safety suit, driving helmet and neck restraint. They then go through a short training class before jumping into the $13,000 carbon fiber-designed go-cart. Spring-loaded guardrails encircle the tracks, ensuring driver safety, and the control tower can cut off power to any and all carts, guaranteeing driver safety.

Other amenities offered are an observation deck, videos of each race, a photo with the Speedway Queen, and video games. We also have a full-service deli and bar.
